The journal has the intention of publishing, initially, per semester, scientific articles, essays, opinion articles, interviews, authored by researchers and professionals in the field of Tourism, Hospitality, Leisure and its interfaces with related areas, allowing an interdisciplinary nature of contributions and advances in this important and dynamic process of scientific maturity of Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure in our country. From this proposition, the Journal Ateliê do Turismo is born, in the year 2017, as a sociability space for the exchange of information and publication of works, articles and critical reviews referring to themes related to tourism/hospitality/leisure and related areas.Important: Ateliê do Turismo follows a continuous flow ( In practice this means that as soon as an article is ready and edited it will be published. This action follows the international trends of scientific publications) with the exception of thematic dossiers, whose publication depends on a call for papers, proposed by one or more organizers. The journal also limits the number of publications by researchers and professors from the institution itself.

pt-BR
Authors/researchers who publish in Ateliê do Turismo accept the following terms:

1 - Copyright:

Authors/researchers retain their copyright, but grant Ateliê do Turismo non-exclusive exploitation rights (reproduction, distribution and publicity). This study seeks to connect the various dimensions of this experience, which transcends the mere act of visiting a place. Tourism involves a complex interaction between time (anticipation, present, and memory), space (the relationship with places), body (sensations and movement), social relations (encounters with others and local culture), and emotions, all of which drive the search for meaning. From a phenomenological perspective, an integrated approach to tourism aims to understand how these elements interrelate, shaping the tourist experience as a whole. This implies analyzing the intentionality of the tourist and how this experience impacts their understanding of themselves and the world. This approach offers a richer and deeper understanding of tourist behavior and provides valuable insights for the planning, management, and development of tourism products, aligning offerings with the expectations and transformative experiences of travelers.
Diego Luiz Teixeira Boava, Fernanda Maria Felicio Macedo, Raoni de Oliveira Inácio Copyright (c) 2025 Diego Luiz Teixeira Boava, Fernanda Maria Felicio Macedo, Raoni de Oliviera Inácio https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://periodicos.ufms.br/index.php/adturismo/article/view/23722 Fri, 29 Aug 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Wine tourism on the southern border of Rio Grande de Sul: Tourist Development Hub https://periodicos.ufms.br/index.php/adturismo/article/view/22233
Highlighting new viticultural production areas linked to wine tourism practices. This study focuses on the Campanha and Vale do Rio Pardo regions in southern Rio Grande do Sul, which have historical and economic characteristics distinct from those typically associated with Gaúcho viticulture. These are territorial areas with an agrarian culture traditionally based on livestock farming, now transitioning into viticulture and tourism-oriented production. This research aims to identify the potential and challenges of wine tourism in the specified geographic area. The guiding question is whether this region—and specific localities within it—can support the formation of a regional hub for wine tourism development. The methodological approach combines theoretical research on regional theories and economic, geographic, and touristic regional development, contrasted with secondary data from official sources. Fieldwork with direct observation at production units and interviews with local stakeholders complements the analysis. The study reveals a series of challenges and opportunities for structuring wine tourism in the Campanha region. Addressing these challenges could enable the establishment of a wine tourism hub.
Pedro de Alcântara Bittencourt César Copyright (c) https://periodicos.ufms.br/index.php/adturismo/article/view/22233 Tue, 01 Apr 2025 13:09:56 +0000 “This experience at Chapada dos Veadeiros transformed my life”: motivations of travelers in a spiritual quest in nature https://periodicos.ufms.br/index.php/adturismo/article/view/22361
Spiritual tourism in natural areas has become an emerging trend in the contemporary context. This study investigated the motivations of travelers seeking spiritual experiences in nature, focusing on the tourist destination Chapada dos Veadeiros. The research was conducted through fieldwork and semi-structured interviews with 10 spiritual travelers in Alto Paraíso. Data analysis was performed using the MAXQDA software, based on the "push and pull" motivation theory (Dann, 1981; Caber & Albayrak, 2016; Moyano et al., 2017). A total of 26 motivations were identified, including 17 internal and 9 external, with highlights being: well-being, peace of mind, transformation, personal growth, mental rest, self-knowledge, psychological balance, and connection with individuals who share knowledge. The main feelings and sensations experienced by the interviewees include peace, warmth, and freedom. It was concluded that spiritual travelers seek a connection with the spiritual knowledge of nature and traditional empirical knowledge, as a way of escaping the stressful urban routine. By analyzing the motivations and experiences of these tourists in Chapada dos Veadeiros, this study contributes to the scientific development of the topic, offering a deeper understanding of the dynamics and contradictions involved in spiritual tourism. In addition to highlighting travelers' internal and external motivations, the research also reveals factors that discourage their experiences. In this context, emerging challenges and criticisms are identified, providing analytical understandings into the social and cultural impacts of this practice. Tourism, as a complex and multifaceted international activity, is used as a vector of regional integration. Anchored in the question of the role of Mercosur in promoting tourism in the Mercosur territory and with the objective of analyzing academic research related to tourism as a precursor of integrated regional development in the period between 1991 and 2023, this study consists of a systematic literature review. Regarding the methodological procedures, the research is qualitative-quantitative, exploratory and is based on the analysis of bibliographic sources and the systematization of primary and secondary data. Thirty-four publications on the subject were analyzed, which made it possible to understand the discontinuity of cultural policies, the lack of constant statistical surveys on tourism and its negative impact on the assertiveness of public policies, and the lack of awareness among the bloc’s population regarding their identity aspects. However, there remains a gap in understanding the specific theories that underpin this area of knowledge. This article seeks to address this gap by exploring tourism theories, their development over time, and their relevance within the contemporary landscape of scientific research, particularly in light of critiques regarding the scientific status of tourism (Leiper, 1979; Tribe, 1997; Jafari, 2005). The aim was to identify trends in knowledge production in tourism, with an emphasis on epistemology and complexity theory, offering an overview of the current theoretical panorama. A systematic literature review was conducted based on a corpus of 58 studies published between 1990 and 2023, retrieved from Web of Science, Scopus, and Publicações de Turismo. The analysis, performed using the Iramuteq software, included all 58 articles. The results highlight three key findings: a growing interest in the topic, with publication peaks in 2020 and 2022; the predominance of studies from the Global West; and the significant presence of Latin American journals, underscoring the field’s interdisciplinary nature. Keyword analysis revealed three main areas of reflection: epistemology, complexity, and conceptualizations. Given the implications of tourism over the years, analyzing these locations is relevant, considering beach quality and attractiveness. This analysis involves considering different typologies and valued characteristics of a beach according to the preferences of distinct groups. Thus, this research aims to analyze beachgoers' perceptions of the quality and scenic attractiveness of the beaches in the municipalities of Guaratuba (Praia das Pedras) and Matinhos (Praia Mansa). The study is exploratory-descriptive, with a mixed-methods approach, predominantly using quantitative methodology. It involved a literature review followed by field research, during which a questionnaire containing 20 variables was applied. Both Praia Mansa and Praia das Pedras are classified as urban beaches intended for leisure. Praia Mansa stands out for its scenic and visual beauty, while Praia das Pedras is notable for the presence of lifeguards—these being the only criteria that achieved more than 90% approval, making them decisive factors in visitors' choices and appreciation. Praia das Pedras also stands out positively in terms of suitability for walking. In both cases, scenic and visual beauty, despite their distinct characteristics, emerges as a highly relevant natural aspect that requires conservation due to its importance for the ecosystem. The analyzed results indicate the need for reflection and actions aimed at research, planning, management, and supervision of sustainable and efficient urban practices. Among the priority actions, maintaining beach cleanliness, ensuring accessibility, providing boardwalks and adequate beachfront structures, offering nearby services and commerce, and guaranteeing safety for visitors stand out.
Wellyngton Fernando Leonel Souza, Allan Paul Krelling Copyright (c) 2025 Wellyngton Fernando Leonel Souza https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://periodicos.ufms.br/index.php/adturismo/article/view/23277 Fri, 12 Sep 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Grande Prêmio de Fórmula 1 do Brasil: uma análise do consumo feminino. https://periodicos.ufms.br/index.php/adturismo/article/view/23500
Motorsport has historically been characterized by the predominance of a male audience, especially in its most visible categories, such as Formula 1. Currently, a shift in the sport’s consumer profile can be observed, marked by the growing interest of female spectators. Although this change is noticeable within sporting events, academic research on the subject remains scarce. Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze the behavior of female consumers, as fans of the sport, during the Brazilian Formula 1 Grand Prix. The method applied was quantitative, adopting an exploratory and descriptive approach. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires administered to a group composed exclusively of female fans, resulting in a final sample of 113 respondents. The research allowed for the delineation of the female audience profile, the identification of purchase-influencing factors, the understanding of motivations for engagement with the sport, and the perception of the event’s marketing strategies. From the perspective of consumer behavior, the results highlight the importance of social factors (family, status, social networks) as key motivators for adherence to the event and the sport. Regarding purchase decisions, price emerged as one of the most relevant factors, along with event infrastructure, safety, and promotion. A noteworthy aspect was the length of engagement with the sport: 41% of respondents have been following the Formula 1 Grand Prix for six years or more.

This finding underscores customer loyalty and indicates that their consumption is not occasional. However, the article raises critical reflections, questioning whether the actions are genuinely participatory and horizontal or if there is a prevalence of corporate interests over community ones. These changes have stimulated adaptation and mitigation strategies aimed at strengthening the resilience of socioecological systems. The relationship between climate change and tourism is complex and ambiguous, as the climate crisis can generate profound transformations in tourist destinations while the tourism sector remains one of the main contributors to the global carbon footprint. This study investigates how tourist destinations respond to climate risks through governance mechanisms, focusing on key destinations in the State of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), an important gateway for Brazilian tourism and one of the territories most vulnerable to extreme events. The objective was to analyze the integration of the climate agenda into tourism policies, identifying the perceptions of public and private representatives who operate in the tourism sector. The study sought to categorize existing mitigation and risk adaptation actions and to understand the level of coordination between climate and tourism policies. The research is exploratory and descriptive, employing a mixed-methods approach structured in four stages: literature review; data collection from risk area databases; content analysis of public policies; and primary data collection with local tourism agents. The results indicate that the main tourist destinations in the State of Rio de Janeiro are also those with the highest levels of greenhouse gas emissions. The findings reveal insufficient coordination between the climate and tourism agendas, and although climate change is perceived as an existing risk, there is evidence of climate denialism within the tourism sector of the destinations analyzed. The main concerns are predominantly economic in nature, and there is a lack of clarity regarding responsibilities in climate risk governance.
Tiago Juliano, Ivy Xavier Sardinha Dutra Soares Copyright (c) 2025 Tiago Juliano, Ivy Xavier Sardinha Dutra Soares https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://periodicos.ufms.br/index.php/adturismo/article/view/24336 Tue, 18 Nov 2025 13:55:19 +0000 Armação dos Búzios / RJ: the image of the tourist destination https://periodicos.ufms.br/index.php/adturismo/article/view/24091
In Brazil, due to its extensive coastline and number of beaches, sun and beach tourism stands out as one of its main segments. In this context, the municipality of Armação dos Búzios, Rio de Janeiro, stands out as a well-established destination in this segment, which motivated this investigation and the central question of this study: what are the main factors that shape the image of Armação dos Búzios as a tourist destination, according to the perception of its visitors? Therefore, this article aimed to analyze the image of the tourist destination Armação dos Búzios, Rio de Janeiro, from the perspective of its visitors. It is a case study that used an online questionnaire as a data collection instrument, with questions based on Pereira's (2019) Multidimensional Scale of Destination Image. The demographic characteristics of the respondents, their motivations for choosing the destination, and their evaluation of their perception of the visit were investigated. The results indicate positive points of the city of Armação dos Búzios as a tourist destination, such as cost-benefit, accessibility, safety, quality of attractions, and cuisine. However, the research also points to the need for strategic actions to combat the seasonality inherent to sun and beach tourist destinations, aiming to strengthen the image of Armação dos Búzios as a viable year-round destination and not just in summer. This study contributes not only to the understanding of the image of the city of Armação dos Búzios, but the results obtained here provide insights for the development of strategies that can enhance the tourist experience
Thiago Nogueira Barbosa, Iomara Albuquerque Giffoni Copyright (c) 2025 Thiago Nogueira Barbosa, Iomara Albuquerque Giffoni https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://periodicos.ufms.br/index.php/adturismo/article/view/24091 Mon, 24 Nov 2025 00:00:00 +0000
