CONTRIBUIÇÃO PARA A RECOMPOSIÇÃO DA GEOGRAFIA PRETÉRITA DE ALFENAS (MG): AGENTES, OBJETOS E PROCESSOS

Abstract

The construction of Brazil as a society and spatiality would not operate without the creation of towns and cities. These geographical objects, arranged in points strategically chosen by the Portuguese Crown and by their representatives, served as the basis for the beginning and expansion of the different uses of the natural environment of the colony since the 17th century. Thus, the objective of this work is to highlight actions and their material forms, which since the colonial period have been directing the formation of Minas Gerais, the South of Minas Gerais and the municipality of Alfenas. Among the aspectcs highlighted we sought to analyze elements of space, its functions and agents that structure the municipal territory of Alfenas between the last quarter of the 19th century and the mid-20th century.
