A A TOPONÍMIA DA CIDADE DE JARDIM DE PIRANHAS – RN COMO RECURSO DIDÁTICO NAS AULAS DE GEOGRAFIA DO ENSINO MÉDIO

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present the toponymic profile of the city of Jardim de Piranhas - RN, to verify if there is a link between the name of the place and the historical-geographical context of the municipality. The investigative locus is composed of 169 toponyms that constitute the urban area of ​​the municipality. They are public roads, neighborhoods, subdivisions and plazas, collected from the municipal archive that have recognition in the form of law. We sought to start from a discussion of the concept of place to discuss the city's toponymic process. In this sense, it was decided to investigate, using the studies of Dick (1990) to classify and analyze the cataloged place names. Then, a questionnaire was applied with students from the Escola Estadual Amaro Cavalcanti in order to establish a critical reading of the place from a toponymic perception, making it possible to recognize social, political, cultural and geographical aspects of the place where they live. The results made it possible to understand that there is a toponymic pattern between the act of naming public spaces and the tribute to representatives of political power, members of traditional families and religious elements in front of physical elements of the region as a way of printing the relations of power and possession.
