THE USE OF ANIMALS IN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS: A STUDY IN THE ZOOBOTANICAL GARDEN OF BELO HORIZONTE, MG.
Abstract
The present work had as general objective to understand the use of animals for tourism purposes, discussing and presenting how this use occurs, through the perception of visitors and tourists of the Belo Horizonte Zoo. It started from the premise that man was never alone on earth, having learned to live with other species and to relate to animals through hunting or domesticating them. From the theoretical basis, it was possible to identify that animals started to be used as entertainment to attract the public, justifying, therefore, the relevance of investigating this phenomenon to better understand it. For this purpose, the study had an exploratory, bibliographic and quantitative character, having as its object of study the Belo Horizonte Zoo, due to the understanding that Zoos represent emblematic equipment regarding the discussion of the relationship of the animal as a tourist attraction. With regard to the referred equipment, it was identified that the zoo is seen by the respondents as an educational place that can be learned during the visit, however, it is necessary that some structures are restructured, readjusting the amount of animals per habitat, increasing spaces and improving the condition. Managers and professionals can act in actions that help to increase the structure, seeking more comfort for tourists and visitors during their leisure time, together with the improvement in the quality of life of the animals
