Author Guidelines

Guavira Letras does not charge submission or publication fees and accepts manuscripts on a rolling basis or according to the deadlines established for Thematic Dossiers.

Before submitting a manuscript, authors must carefully read these guidelines and use the journal’s template. Submissions that do not comply with the editorial standards may be returned for correction before being sent for peer review.

1. Originality and unpublished status

Submitted contributions must be original and unpublished and may not have been published or be under simultaneous consideration by another journal, book, edited volume, conference proceedings or any other publication venue.

The limited reuse of content from previous works must be properly indicated and referenced. Such reuse will be assessed by the editorial team in terms of its extent, relevance and transparency. Substantial reproduction of previous works will not be accepted, nor will an automatic percentage be adopted as a criterion for acceptance.

Manuscripts previously deposited on preprint servers may be submitted, provided that this information is disclosed at the time of submission.

Articles derived from theses or dissertations will be accepted provided that they have been properly reworked as scientific articles and that their origin is indicated in a footnote or in the body of the text.

2. Authorship and contributor identification

Contributions may have a maximum of four authors.

Guavira Letras accepts manuscripts by authors holding a doctoral degree. Individuals without a doctoral degree may participate as authors provided that the manuscript is submitted in co-authorship with at least one author who holds a doctoral degree.

All authors must:

a) have an ORCID iD properly entered and authenticated in the system;

b) provide their institutional affiliation in a complete and standardised form;

c) provide, when available, the corresponding institutional identifier in the Research Organization Registry, ROR;

d) declare their individual contributions in accordance with the CRediT taxonomy.

Artificial Intelligence tools may not be listed as authors or co-authors.

3. Types and length of contributions

Articles must be between 15 and 25 pages long.

Reviews must not exceed five pages and must address works published within the two years preceding the submission.

Interviews must include:

a) an introduction containing information about the interviewee;

b) organisation in a question-and-answer format;

c) clear language in accordance with standard written usage;

d) formal authorisation from the interviewee for publication under the licence adopted by the journal.

4. Manuscript preparation and formatting

Manuscripts must be submitted exclusively in DOC or DOCX format and must be prepared using the journal’s template.

The text must use:

a) Times New Roman font, size 12;

b) 1.5 line spacing between lines and paragraphs;

c) italics instead of underlining, except in electronic addresses;

d) article titles in bold capital letters in the file prepared using the template. In the OJS metadata fields, titles must be entered using standard upper- and lower-case letters.

Figures, charts, graphs, tables and images must be included in the body of the text, properly identified, numbered and accompanied by a title or caption.

Articles should preferably follow this structure:

Introduction;

Theoretical Framework;

Methodology;

Results and Discussion;

Final Considerations;

References.

Section titles must be presented in bold, and subsections may be used.

5. Title, abstract and keywords

Abstracts must contain no more than 250 words and clearly present the topic, objectives, methodology, results and general conclusions of the study.

Each manuscript must include three to five keywords, separated by semicolons.

Versions of the title, abstract and keywords must be provided in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

For articles written in English or Spanish, the presentation of this information in Portuguese is mandatory.

6. Citations and references

Citations and references must strictly follow the current standards of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards, ABNT.

Citations of up to three lines must be included in the body of the paragraph and enclosed in double quotation marks.

Citations longer than three lines must be presented as block quotations with a 4 cm indentation, font size 11 and no quotation marks.

References must include the authors’ full names, use 1.5 line spacing and apply bold formatting in accordance with the standard established in the journal’s template. The spacing between references must follow exactly the formatting provided in the template.

Whenever possible, electronic addresses and persistent identifiers for references, such as DOIs, must be provided as active links.

7. Blind peer review

The manuscript file must not contain names, affiliations, acknowledgements or any other information that could identify its authorship.

When references to the authors’ own works could reveal their identity, citations in the body of the text and in the reference list must be temporarily replaced by the expression “AUTHOR”, followed by the year, without indicating the title of the publication.

Authorship information must be entered exclusively in the appropriate fields of the submission system.

Manuscripts will be reviewed by two reviewers under a double-blind peer review system. In the event of disagreement between the reviews, the manuscript may be referred to a third reviewer.

The journal may adopt open or informed peer review models with the consent of the parties involved. The conditions, possibilities for identification and forms of publication of the reviews are described in the journal’s Peer Review Policy [insert link].

8. Research data

Manuscripts must include a Data Availability Statement, completed in the specific section of the template, indicating, where applicable:

a) whether research data were used or produced;

b) where the data, codes or supplementary materials are available;

c) the conditions of access;

d) the reasons for any access restrictions;

e) whether data sharing does not apply to the work.

The statement is mandatory for all submissions and must be completed in the template itself, together with the other information required by the journal. It does not need to be submitted as a separate supplementary file.

9. Use of Artificial Intelligence

All authors must complete the Generative Artificial Intelligence Use Statement in the manuscript template itself. When such tools have not been used, the option corresponding to “I did not use Generative Artificial Intelligence” must be selected. When they have been used, the tool and the purpose of its use must be indicated.

Responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity and authorship of the content remains entirely with the authors.

The statement is mandatory for all submissions and must be completed in the specific section of the template, together with the other information required by the journal. It does not need to be submitted as a separate supplementary file.

10. Mandatory documents and information

Only submissions containing the following will be sent for peer review:

a) a manuscript prepared using the template and containing no authorship identification;

b) complete information for all authors entered in the system;

c) the ORCID iD of all authors;

d) correctly completed institutional affiliations;

e) authorship contributions in accordance with the CRediT taxonomy;

f) a Data Availability Statement duly completed in the template;

g) an Artificial Intelligence Use Statement duly completed in the template, including when such tools have not been used;

h) supplementary documents required for the type of submission.

11. Text revision

Linguistic, grammatical and bibliographic revision, as well as the correction of the Portuguese, English and Spanish versions, are the responsibility of the authors.

The work will be published according to the final version approved and submitted by the authors.

12. Copyright

Authors retain copyright over their works and grant Guavira Letras the right of first publication under the journal’s editorial policy and the licence it adopts.

13. New submission after publication

After the publication of a work, authors must wait for two consecutive issues of the journal before making a new submission.

This restriction does not apply to invited authors.
