ON THE POSITION OF METAPHYSICS IN FREUDIAN METAPSYCHOLOGY

Starting from Freud’s criticism of philosophy, we aimed in this article to comprehend its position within Freudian theorization. We presented, firstly, the Freudian critique of the philosophical method (by which the philosopher would create metaphysical systems finished and closed to experience, whose abstract concepts would fill the lacunae of the world); afterwards, we showed how metapsychology arouses as a sort of metamorphosis of metaphysics (from which the philosopher’s abstract concepts would come down to the unconscious’s underground). We inquired, then, some of the most important characteristics of metapsychology, highlighting its founding task of filling the lacunae of the consciousness’ phenomena; there, philosophy seems to return to the psychoanalytical theory as if through the backdoor. Investigating psychic processes lying between the conscious and the corporeal, metapsychology reveals psychoanalysis as an eminently borderline discipline; philosophy not only would be on one of these frontiers, but it is its task to investigate them.
