LACAN AS A READER OF PLATO’S SYMPOSIUM

Lacan, French psychoanalyst of the 20th century, undertakes a radical reading of Freudian psychoanalysis, among the theoretical and practical innovations it is a new way of thinking about the relationship between psychoanalysis and philosophy. This new way of thinking about the relationship between these fields seems particularly explicit when a large part of his seminar in 1960 will be reserved for a commentary on the Plato's dialogue The Symposium. The present work then aims to explore what would be the relationship between psychoanalysis and philosophy based on his commentary, noting that the problems that arise on any interpretation of a Platonic dialogue do not seem to be impediments to a psychoanalytic interpretation, as well as it seems to be possible to argue by a Lacanian reading of this Platonic dialogue, which does not imply a Lacanian philosophy.
