NANOMEDICINE: APPLICATIONS IN DIAGNOSIS AND CANCER TREATMENT

Keywords: Nanotechnology; cancer; treatment; diagnosis.

Abstract

The study is an integrative literature review, with the objective of describing the use of nanotechnology for the screening, diagnosis and treatment of various types of neoplasms, considering that the tool has shown satisfactory results, with an improvement in the prognosis of patients. For data collection, the SCIELO and PUBMED databases were used, in which 1,643 articles were found. Of these, only 44 directly addressed aspects related to nanotechnology in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and were in accordance with the inclusion criteria. The findings suggested nanotechnology as a useful tool in early diagnosis and effective treatment for various types of cancer, as it presents specificity for many types of altered cells, a targeted pharmacological delivery, consequently reducing side effects and improving drug efficacy. It is also suggested that this technology has a lower chance of resistance to chemotherapy drugs. Considering the benefits of nanotechnology as an efficient tool in the diagnosis and treatment of various neoplasms, it is necessary to expand the knowledge on the subject among the population and health professionals.
