SEVERE REFRACTORY ASTHMA: CASE REPORT

Abstract

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease with high prevalence in primary care and emergency sectors. The aim of this work is to report a case of a patient who presented with acute respiratory failure due to severe refractory asthma crisis despite the main measures for bronchospasm. Method: Information was obtained through medical record review, imaging exams, and literature review. Results: The patient showed significant clinical improvement and was discharged for home recovery after a long period of management in the intensive care unit. Final considerations: The reported case highlights the importance of therapeutic discussion for a common disease but with potentially fatal complications. It also emphasizes the relevance of medical follow-up combined with individual drug therapy to control disease exacerbations.
