ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE APPLIED TO FINANCE: An overview based on international studies

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning have been used in various applications within the finance sector, transforming processes, creating products, and developing new business models. This study presents an overview of international scientific production published between 2020 and 2025 regarding artificial intelligence and finance. It is a bibliographic and bibliometric study that utilizes qualitative and quantitative secondary data. The results indicate: a) that it is a growing field ; b) that China leads in publications ; c) that AI is present in a wide range of financial applications ; d) that new models are being developed to improve the outcomes of these applications ; and e) that the field is characterized by tension between rapid technical evolution and ethical and regulatory challenges. The future research agenda should focus on the development of governance frameworks that ensure the transparency and auditability of models.
