Por uma ética da desaprendizagem

Abstract

This extended abstract presents an analytical synthesis of the results of a research project published under the title Off-field Racism and Cultural Formation, which addresses the theme of racism in football, especially in its off-field dimension, that is, beyond the practices and discourses directly related to players' actions during matches. The focus is on the racist practices perpetrated by fans, which, even in the presence of celebrated Black athletes, continue to manifest in symbolic, verbal, and physical forms. The analysis adopts an interdisciplinary approach within the field of Human Sciences, drawing on critical theory to understand how football functions as a space for the reaffirmation of racial inequality. Theoretical frameworks by Theodor Adorno (2003), Kabengele Munanga (2006), Franz Fanon (1968), Paulo Freire (1987), and Bell Hooks (2017) are employed to support the thesis that the anti-racist struggle must shift toward the domain of culture and subjectivity, with an emphasis on the concept of unlearning. This proposal aims to destabilize the historical mechanisms of racialization and foster new practices of recognizing the Other, both in stadiums and in society at large.
