Food sovereignty, driven mainly by the action of peasant movements, is related to the nation's self-sufficiency in food production, that is, sovereign is the country capable of producing enough food to meet the demand existing in its territory. In this context, agroecological thinking gains momentum in society as a founding element of food sovereignty, linked even to the implementation of agrarian reform, which also has a national meaning, as it constitutes, in the understanding of peasant movements, as part of a project of development of the nation. It is observed, however, that although the themes of food sovereignty and agroecology are politically, socially and environmentally legitimized, considering the praxis and, above all, the achievements achieved, both have limits and contradictions.
