Tourism and interpretation of paleontological heritage at the Museum of Earth and Life, in Mafra, Santa Catarina

Abstract

The article considers that the tourist potential of the paleontological heritage of the Museum of Earth and Life, in Mafra, Santa Catarina, it can be streamlined from means and techniques that facilitate the interpretation of heritage for the public. The main objective of the research was to analyze the interpretation of the heritage of this museum from the perspective of the principles that govern this practice. The methodology was qualitative in nature and presented an exploratory investigation with documentary, bibliographic and observation techniques, combined with the interview with the museum manager. The results described the way the museum's exhibition was organized, pointing out the predominant use of interpretive media and little use personal of impersonal media, in addition to aspects about the public composed mainly of students. Based on these data, some recommendations were drawn up for the Museum of Earth and Life, which assist this museum organization and demonstrate how to apply the principles of interpretation of heritage for better use of paleontological heritage.
