The importance of the municipal natural park of Nova Iguaçu (RJ) as a conservation unit in baixada verde: surrounding residents’ perception of public use

The Nova Iguaçu Municipal Natural Park, located in Baixada Verde, is an important Conservation Unit located in the municipality of Nova Iguaçu, part of the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro (RMRJ). This research sought to analyze the importance of conservation units in Baixada Verde, focusing on the Nova Iguaçu Municipal Natural Park, based on the perception of local residents about public use. To achieve this objective, bibliographic review methods were used, in addition to a demand survey analysis applied by the Tourism and Leisure Observatory of the Baixada Verde Tourist Region in April 2024. The results showed a diversity of residents' perceptions regarding the public use of the park, highlighting the relevance of the conservation unit for both leisure and quality of life in the region. This diversity of opinions reflects the importance of the park for the community, contributing to the appreciation and preservation of the environment in Baixada Verde.
