A Historical Heritage and Tourism on the Old Way of Estrada Real (Royal Road)
Abstract
This work was inspired by academic curiosity about the nature and the meaning of mining as a symbolic construction of being from Minas Gerais and the reflection in tourism of Caminho Velho da Estrada Real. The objective is, therefore, to analyze the historical and cultural construction of the image of Caminho Velho da Estrada Real, in the perception of tourists. Methodologically, a descriptive research with a qualitative approach was carried out, using interviews as a data collection strategy. Ten tourists were interviewed in ten selected cities on Caminho Velho da Estrada Real. For data analysis, the content analysis technique was used, establishing three categories of analysis: Knowledge about Estrada Real, Government and (de) government in the route of Estrada Real, Image and culture: the city, in the perception of the interviewees. The results indicated that recognizing a space as a tourist is a historical and cultural construction. Thus, in the daily route of the mining towns that are present in the Caminho Velho da Estrada Real, the experience, the symbols and the memory of men and women from different times, are ignited by mining. Thus, the discourse of mining is appropriate in different ways. The ways of seeing, living and watching are socially anchored constructs, which reveals that mining is diverse in different cultural regions.Downloads
