an analysis of linguistic taboo of swearing based on Freud’s psychoanalysis and Wittgenstein’s philosophy of language

Human language is a phenomenon rich in meanings and is influenced by cultural, social and psychological aspects. That said, the objective of this article is to propose a conceptual discussion on the issue of the linguistic taboo of swear words within everyday speech and its influence on social interactions. The aim is to highlight the psychological mechanisms behind the construction of this obscene lexical in the light of Freudian psychoanalysis and Wittgenstein's philosophy of language. To carry out this research, a bibliographical and theoretical investigation was undertaken in the literature related to the topic in question, notably Freud's Totem and Taboo and Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations. Therefore, it was understood that swear words have become an integral part of speeches, highlighting the ambiguous relationship between human beings and the sacred and profane. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the different speech situations defined by language games, as well as their psychological foundation.
