THE OPPOSITION BETWEEN MYTH AND HISTORY IN WALTER BENJAMIN'S THOUGHTS BETWEEN 1916 TO 1925
Abstract
Based on some texts by Walter Benjamin from 1916 to 1925, we seek to expose the primordial opposition between myth (Mhytos), and history (Geschichte), on which the philosopher put effort in his thoughts during the so-called youth period. For the unfolding of our writing, the essays of this period are unavoidable, since they deal with myth as a diagnosis of time, according to the philosopher. In them, we will follow the tracks of this opposition to try to unfold it. Both the writings on literature and the one about the violence of 1921 try to put this opposition in debate in the author's philosophical production. Thus, we will contemplate the mere life (bloßes Leben) as a result, that is, the materialization of the myth in the existence of men, and the historical life as a result of the breaking of this diagnosis made by the German thinker. Therefore, each of these modes of existence corresponds to a pole of the problem that we seek to present.
