Abstract

This article analyzes the spatial dynamics of technical-scientific occupations associated with the low-carbon hydrogen production chain in Brazil. It focuses on the extractive and transformative industries, as well as the gas and electricity sectors, during the period from 2006 to 2021.Using data from the Annual List of Social Information (Rais), 64 technical-scientific occupations (PoTec) (Suzigan et al., 2006) were classified based on SENAI Nacional (Hoppe et al., 2023) and the Brazilian Classification of Occupations. The results reveal a consistent growth of the PoTec occupational profile, encompassing Research and Development (R&D) and Technical and Operational, from 2006 to 2013, followed by a reduction from 2014 onwards in the low-carbon hydrogen economy in Brazil. The Southeast region has the highest participation, followed by the South, North, Northeast, and Midwest, with a concentration in urban areas. The study concludes that public policies and investments are crucial for the development of Brazil's low- carbon hydrogen economy, aiming to decentralize these occupations and promote clean and sustainable energy sources.
