Abstract
In 1966 Nelson Rodrigues launches a novel called The Marriage, in his view is a defense to marriage, for the censors a critique of the bourgeois family. In discussing this novel, we will analyze how the theme of marriage is
worked and developed by Nelson Rodrigues, showing how the Catholic Church is essential for the formation of this theme.
