Resumo

Este artigo traça a história dos usos da palavra “gênero”. Isso sugere que, embora o conceito “gênero” tenha sido recuperado e se tornado comum, muitas questões persistem em torno da forma como “mulheres” e “homens”, e as relações de poder entre eles, são definidas e estão evoluindo. Desde que ainda nos permita questionar os significados atribuídos aos sexos, como eles se estabelecem e em que contextos gênero continua a ser uma categoria útil, crítica e analítica. Este texto, aqui traduzido, foi lançado originalmente na revista Diogenes, v. 57, n. 1, p. 7-14, 2010.
