BIBLIOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS ON THE USE OF DATA SCIENCE IN BUSINESSES AND INDUSTRY

Abstract

This quantitative article investigates the growing role of data science in businesses and its importance in informed decision-making. A bibliographic analysis of 392 publications, classified from A1 to B2, was conducted to assess the use of data science in companies. The documents were selected based on the credibility of the sources and analyzed regarding the distribution by knowledge area, number of citations, and geographic origin. The results show a continuous growth in research production on data science, with a decline in 2023. The Business and Economics area showed a significant increase of 250% since 2019. However, Brazil ranked 11th in publication contribution, with limited presence compared to countries like the United States, United Kingdom, and Switzerland. Despite the growing relevance of data science, Brazil faces challenges in academic production and investment. Investing in this field is crucial to boost innovation and technological and economic development. Initiatives that encourage research and professional training are essential for the country's advancement in this global scenario.
