Industry 4.0 and Tourism: a bibliometric perspective
Abstract
The integration of industry 4.0 technologies into the tourism sector is already a reality, but it is still below its potential. Studies indicate several opportunities for optimizing the management of tourism companies and the customer experience, which, due to its dynamic nature, is constantly changing. Facilitated by ICTs, it is possible to offer and create new types of tourist activities resulting in more participatory experiences expressed through multiple tools. In order to evaluate the scientific production on the theme industry 4.0 and tourism, a bibliometric analysis was carried out, using 60 papers resulting from the search in the Scopus database, with the help of the VOSviewer software to identify the main authors, countries, themes and concepts from all the research published until July 2021. As a main result, there was a lack of work on the different digital technologies related to tourism. This work, therefore, contributes to the academy by presenting the state of the art of research on industry 4.0 and tourism, identifying gaps, trends and proposing a research agenda.
