Dynamic capabilities in a hotel network in Paraiba: retrospective analysis from 2005 to 2022
Abstract
The competitiveness of hotel organizations is a global concern, especially with the emergence of substitute services and increased competition in the turbulent context. In addition, the tourism sector has seasonality as one of its characteristics, as it also depends on changes in nature to attract or provide situations of repulsion for tourists. The coast of Paraíba located in northeastern Brazil continues with these same challenges. Given these characteristics, the objective of this study was to investigate how dynamic capabilities were implemented in a chain of hotels in Paraíba between 2005 and 2022. 7 general managers, 1 manager participated in this investigation. financier and 2 owners of the hotel chain. The content analysis technique was adopted and was supported by the ATLAS.ti software. The collection instrument used was the semi-structured interview. The dynamic capacities found were adaptability, innovation capacity and operational improvement capacity. These dynamic capabilities subsidized the company to remain competitive in the hotel market against competitors. Therefore, as tourism is considered a dynamic market, companies need to transform themselves and create new ideas to have superior performance in the face of the unpredictability of the business environment, dynamic capabilities being essential in this context.
