Abstract

This study discusses the relationship between museums and the public, along with a pertinent theme in post-modernity: spectacularization, with the object of analysis being the Imperial Museum, located in Petrópolis, in the State of Rio de Janeiro. Thus, we seek to understand it from the museums and their respective expographic narratives. Museum exhibitions play a mediating role between the public and the exposed collection and are, therefore, fundamental elements of the relationship between museum and society. However, fetishism, spectacle and the use of technological supports are peculiar characteristics that permeate such a process. Questioning the mediation of information in such institutions aims to promote a debate about the real democratization of these spaces.
