Abstract

This research aims to present a systematic review of studies on the communication systems most used for the establishment of communication between deafblind people and the world. We opted for national and international publications that focused on the training of guide-interpreters and how they learn and use such systems in the care of deafblind people. Articles published in online journals, books on deafblindness and didactic material regarding the training of guide-interpreters were consulted. Publications from the last fifteen years were selected, that is, from 2008 to 2023. The selection criteria were composed of terms such as: deafblindness, communication systems, haptic social communication, guide-interpreter and audio description. After the selection, the authors most present in the research were those who have a rich base in research, professional training and care related to deafblindness. The review made it possible to analyze the training of guide-interpreters for learning and subsequent teaching of communication systems appropriate to each individual with this specificity. The studies indicated the absence of the use of audio description in this training, which could help the deafblind subject to build his cognitive repertoire, covering linguistic aspects and the formation of concepts autonomously. It is concluded that it is necessary to reevaluate the continuing education for guide-interpreters, in order to offer people with deafblindness another strategy of apprehension and formation of concepts.
