Abstract

This article investigates the importance of territory in transmitting knowledge to Indigenous children, considering their prior knowledge within their culture, originating from their experiences, memories, and customs, with their specific and characteristic way of learning in an education that affirms their identity and allows them the right to educate and be educated according to their traditions. The research aims to contribute to a fairer and more inclusive education that values cultural diversity and the importance of traditional knowledge, recognizing that Indigenous children need not only a place to play but also a place to learn about life, their culture, and the history of their people. To develop this work, I will use as an example my observations and interactions with the Kinikinau people, with whom I have lived for a year. I have followed their steps, their struggles, and their learning practices, focusing primarily on Indigenous children. The research demonstrated the crucial importance of territory for indigenous education, revealing how the loss of ancestral lands impacts the culture, identity and integral development of indigenous children.
