Abstract

Culture can present itself in relationships and social dynamics. Conforming Santos (2023), culture involves lifestyles, feelings, experiences and the perception of dynamics around us. In this sense, public spaces can tell people’s history and culture. Praça da República is a social interaction space and one of the oldest parks in Mato Grosso do Sul. Despite its relevance, studies on the history of Corumbá only mention it as a tourist attraction. However, Praça da República and its surroundings have monuments, streets and architecture in honor of Corumbá's memory. Thusly, this study aimed to analyze the historicity of Praça da República, and the cultural confluences of this space as potential for patrimony education. The methodology consisted of a bibliographical survey of three different temporalities of this space: 1) Corumbá’s Foundation, 2) Resumption of Corumbá, and 3) Bath of São João. As a result, Praça da República space helps preserve local memory, and expands Corumbá’s people participation in history making.
