Abstract

ABSTRACT This article aims to reflect on black female empowerment and the conception of a non-stereotyped, anti-racist black identity and against the invisibility of the history of black women in their participation in the struggles against slavery and even in contemporary times in the insurgent battles of racism. A reflection of black literature through the reading and study of the work Black Heroines in 15 cordels by the black writer Jarid Arraes, where we seek to observe how the author shows the intensity of the strength of these women, promoting empowerment and self-esteem. Black Brazilian literature should be a way of deconstructing the image of a subalternized, submissive, object and prejudiced woman. The cordel literature used by the writer is also a form of resistance, a popular art treated with prejudice, which demonstrates the need for more studies to overcome these social ills of the elite formed through this coloniality. Keywords: black woman, cordels, racial prejudices, black literature, empowerment
