Abstract

The act of writing, compared to the act of drawing, is often considered more relevant to the child in the context of reading and writing. In effect, pedagogical practices, in some situations, are directed exclusively to the improvement of literacy, devaluing other forms of learning, such as drawing. The main objective of this article is to analyze the contribution of drawing as a significant tool for the construction of the literacy process. The specific objectives include: observing the use of drawing as an influential resource in the preparation for literacy; exploring how children express themselves during the stages of transformation of children's graphism; analyzing the process of mediation between teacher and student throughout the productions; and investigating the involvement of teachers in relation to children's drawing. The research is based on a literature review by authors such as Piaget (1948), Vygotsky (1988, 1989), Mattos Da Silva (2010), Gobbi (2010), Derdyk (1989), Lowenfeld (1947, 1977), and Luquet (1969). This is a bibliographic research with a qualitative approach, combining theoretical analysis with simple observations carried out in a CEI (Childhood Education Center) in Fortaleza/CE. Two classes were observed: Kindergarten 1, in the scribbles stage, and Kindergarten 5-A, in the pre-schematic period. The results show that children's drawing, within the context of Early Childhood Education, contributes significantly to the development of children, offering opportunities for graphic evolution in line with the drawings. In addition, drawing helps in the construction of language and writing, following the development of the child in its different stages of child graphics.
