Abstract

This article highlights the importance of children's literature with black protagonists to strengthen the representation and self-esteem of black and brown children. Brazilian children's literature, historically centered on a white perspective, perpetuates the invisibility of black characters. Based on the reflections of Gomes, Munanga and Ramos, the impact of works that present black protagonism in education is analyzed. Despite advances, the inclusion of these narratives is still insufficient for the implementation of anti-racist pedagogical practices, due to an exclusionary school curriculum. The study emphasizes the relevance of books that promote positive representations of black characters, which are essential in combating structural racism. Furthermore, it addresses the challenges faced in introducing these narratives, such as the silencing of alternative knowledge and the need for a careful selection of representative works.
