Abstract

This paper aims to investigate how the use of expressive materials in visual arts, such as drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, installations, videos, photographs and comics can aid the development of creativity and contribute to the learning and development process in an inclusive educational context. Additionally, it sought to analyze the importance of teaching arts in recognizing its value as an internal space for building autonomy and awareness, being a relevant means and a real possibility for creating, experimenting, knowing, learning, and teaching in its different artistic expressions. The research is based on the study of published theories, among the main references which were chosen for their affinity and recognition of the relevance and possible transformations in the teaching of art, such as; Barbosa (1998), Ostetto (2010), Ostrower (1986), and Vygotsky (1999, 2017), the National Curriculum Parameters (1997), and the National Common Curricular Base (2016). The study allowed for considerations about art and its relevance in the emotional, social, and cultural development of individuals from childhood, the understanding of how art and its various artistic languages can intervene in the study of other areas of knowledge, facilitate inclusive processes, and recognize that even with legislation, art still does not occupy an effective and valued place in the school space. Keywords: Art, inclusive education, learning, creativity.
