The importance of Folk Linguistics for Defining the concept of pain and its use in the health field

This article addresses the conceptualization of the sytagma "pain" for professional use in the field of health sciences and the relevance of non linguistics in this construction. This concept was established beyond the lexical records found in dictionaries due to a professional demand that was not sufficiently met for practical use in the field. There was a need to standardize the concept so that professionals could have clarity and shared basis of understanding about the phenomenon, given that the topic involves a multiplicity of causal and semantic factors as well as different categories of therapeutic agents involved: physicians, nurses physical therapists, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, etc. It is important to highlight that none of the professionals who participated in this conceptualization were linguists. In Brazil, although the translation was caried out by a sworn tralslator, it also does not make explicit the presence of a linguist in this process. For the analysis, we draw on the works of Niedzielsky, Preston, Paveau, xxx, Gonçalves and Conti on Folk Linguistics
