WELFARE STATE CHALLENGES TOWARDS NEOLIBERALISM AND POLITICAL ALTERNATIVES TO REDUCE INEQUALITIES
Abstract
The research aims to analyze the challenges of the Welfare State in the face of neoliberalism and some political alternatives to reduce inequalities, through the analysis of data mapped previously and during the Covid-19 pandemic. To this end, the research problem that arises is: how does neoliberalism produce and accentuate inequalities and, in view of that, what are the challenges of the Welfare State and what are the political alternatives to reduce these inequalities? During the study, the deductive approach method was used and, as a procedment method, the monographic method was adopted, using the bibliographic research technique. In the end, it was possible to show that the neoliberal forces, driven by the interests of the economic elite, are capable of both producing and accentuating inequalities. Furthermore, taking into account the wide-open disparities caused by the pandemic and contemplating some coping measures, the possibilities pointed out by the research are presented as important measures to launch new perspectives to reduce these inequalities and strengthen the democracy of the countries, in the context of social justice and citizenship.
