Abstract

Translation of an article by Friedrich Engels written in English for The Commonwealth, which was published in November 1885. The object of this article is a partial translation of Karl Marx’s Book I of Capital by Henry Hyndman under the pseudonym John Broadhouse. Such a translation is criticized by Engels throughout the article in that it would not only have moved away from the precise meaning of Marxian formulations, but would also lead to an erroneous interpretation of Marx’s theory of value.

    Realizei graduação em Ciências Econômicas pelo Centro Universitário Padre Anchieta, graduação em Ciências Sociais pela Unicamp, mestrado em Sociologia pela Unicamp e, atualmente, desenvolvo tese de doutorado pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Sociologia, IFCH/Unicamp.
