Abstract

This article presents a critical analysis of the theme of Youth and Adult Education (EJA) based on the author's experience in the classroom during the internship period with a class of this type of education, in a public school. The scope provides an in-depth reflection on the subject and their training process in EJA. The theoretical basis of the study is based on historical contexts, challenges and advances of this type of education, proposing a qualitative approach, supported by bibliographical and empirical research, complemented by the author's experience report, based mainly on the studies of Paulo Freire, highlighting his understanding of a critical awareness of the social and political reality of the student inserted in EJA, mostly adults who need a teaching and learning process adapted to their reality. The experience report explores the focus of collective identity and the complex interactions between subjects and their respective identities in a diverse school context. The study showed that EJA is configured as a pillar for individual and social development. This implies taking into account the student's experiences and prior knowledge and, mainly, their individual learning rhythms, requiring the teacher to have a flexible stance and the ability to promote specific adaptations for the EJA target audience.
