Abstract

The article discusses the use of audiovisual media as a didactic resource in Geography teaching, through a pedagogical project developed by PIBID at Luiz Augusto Azevedo de Menezes State School in Delmiro Gouveia (AL), Brazil. The project emerged from the observation that today's youth are digital natives, constantly immersed in media, requiring schools to adopt new teaching methods. The documentary “Nunca me Sonharam” was selected to stimulate critical reflection on Brazil’s educational and social inequalities. The project was structured in three phases: theoretical foundation, documentary screening with pedagogical mediation, and student-written reflections. Results showed that students engaged critically, linking the audiovisual content to their own life experiences. Their essays revealed aspirations and struggles, especially regarding access to higher education, and emphasized the school’s role in helping students build life goals. Despite the school’s infrastructural limitations, the use of simple tools, such as projectors, proved effective for implementing innovative teaching practices. The experience highlighted the need for well-prepared teachers to mediate digital resources effectively. The project demonstrates that audiovisual media can make learning more meaningful, stimulate critical thinking, and bring educational content closer to students' realities.
