Abstract

The article discusses the application of the materialistic, dialectical or even Marxist method of scientific investigation and the interdisciplinary principle at education. The research is conducted through the bibliographic analysis of authors such as Gaudêncio Frigotto (2004), Hilton Japiassu (2006), José Paulo de Netto (2011), Claude Raynaut (2011; 2014), Ivani Fazenda (1979; 1998; 2008) in addition to Marx himself. The article is divided into three parts; the first debates the search for the totality of logos throughout history, through philosophical summaries and the development of science, questioning whether there is a crisis in science today. After society broke with animism, the concern of science was in the search for holistic and self-critical knowledge, however, the process posterior to hegemonic capitalism was the opposite, education became a merchandise, forming people prepared to work at the specialist labor market. In the traditional educational system there is an excessive specialization, which forms beings unable to think critically, being only recipients of knowledge and performers of tasks. The interdisciplinary movement has purchased space in the academy and is now interposing the specializing trend. The article briefly exposes the main characteristics, possibilities and challenges of this movement in education.
