Percursos históricos da Linguística popular como campo de estudo e suas relações com outros domínios da linguagem: o olhar linguístico

A linguística popular enfrenta certas dificuldades de denominação: deve ela ser chamada de “linguística folk” ou “profana”, “cotidiana” ou “secular”? Este artigo começa por um exame detalhado da noção de folk, antes de esboçar a história desse campo de pesquisa, dispensando atenção particular à dialetologia popular (ou “perceptual”). Estabelece-se em seguida o valor dos trabalhos de Linguística popular em relação a vários outros campos de interesse, para concluir situando a Linguística popular no quadro mais amplo de estudos correlatos, designados aqui coletivamente pela expressão ‘olhar linguístico’ (language regard).
