BIENESTAR DIGITAL
UN ESTUDIO DESDE LA PARENTALIDAD POSITIVA
Abstract
Currently, humanity is going through an era characterized by advances in information and communication technologies, experiencing dizzying changes framed in a process of acceleration. The global panorama invites to reflect on the effects on the family system and the possibility of reaching a state of digital well-being, which can be understood as the balanced use of digital technologies, allowing a controlled enjoyment and a minimum of functional impairment (Campos Ventura, 2023; Vanden, 2021). Bearing in mind that the family is permeated by global processes, the study aims to analyze the influence of positive parenting on the digital well-being of a group of families in the municipality of Villanueva, La Guajira.
To this end, the following specific objectives are proposed:
1. To study the characteristics of positive parenting in a group of families in the municipality of Villanueva, La Guajira.
2. To investigate parental educational styles and strategies for the appropriate use of ICTs in a group of families in the municipality of Villanueva, La Guajira.
3. To describe the perceptions of family members about the relationship between positive parenting and digital well-being.
4. To narrate the challenges of families facing the task of educating in the digital era.
The study is based on the theory of digital culture, which focuses mainly on the interaction between culture and technology, and on the way in which new environmental conditions of ways of being are configured (García Canclini, 2007; Rodríguez Riverón, 2016). Also understanding that the family plays a crucial role in the relationship with technologies by establishing or not clear limits, i.e., parental educational styles and, in addition, the conception of the family as an open system. The main theoretical references are the work of López et al. (2010) who addresses positive parenting and offers a reading of an interconnected world, likewise, Moreno (2010), allows understanding the historical context that allowed the development of positive parenting in Europe. In contrast, Leyton and Ortiz (2022), show the clear trend towards positive parenting in Latin American countries, and Agudo Salces (2021) provides an overview of parenting that is permeated by social networks and Vaquero Tió (2020) deepens digital parenting. The previous studies agree that the focus should be on parental competencies in terms of digital technologies and the clear transformations that these generate in the family nucleus.
This work will have qualitative and quantitative data, due to the type of information required to meet the objectives. It is descriptive, where "facts, situations, features, characteristics of an object of study are narrated, reviewed or identified" (Bernal, 2010, p. 113), and the phenomenological method will be used as a method, as it proposes to narrate the lived experience in the way it is perceived by those involved (Hernández et al., 2014). Additionally, the interview technique and focus groups will be used, using as instruments the in-depth interview, the positive parenting scale (E2p), developed by Gómez and Muñoz (2014). As participants of the study or sample, we will be working with 15 families from the municipality of Villanueva in the department of La Guajira, in the neighborhoods of El Cafetal, Las Delicias and Román Gómez Ovalle, using snowball sampling.
