Abstract

This article aims to map Brazilian scientific literature on the Montessori method as it relates to special education and public schools. To this end, we conducted a scoping review using the search terms "Montessori," "special education," and "public schools," identifying 23 studies published in Brazil between 2001 and 2026 that met the established inclusion criteria. The results reveal a gap in research linking the Montessori method to special education within Brazilian public schools. This points to the need for further studies in this area, particularly regarding inclusive pedagogical practices and the possibilities for implementing the method in public educational settings.
