Abstract

Psychomotricity is believed to be an important area for the full development of children as it stimulates motor, cognitive and emotional aspects. Therefore, this paper aims to highlight the relevance of psychomotricity in Early Childhood Education by analyzing its theoretical foundations and benefits. Despite the theoretical recognition of the dimension of psychomotricity, there is a significant gap regarding the practical application of this knowledge in early childhood education institutions. Thus, it compromises the motor, cognitive and emotional development of children. However, the proper implementation of psychomotricity can promote essential skills for children, such as motor coordination, spatial perception and emotional balance. This full development is crucial to the formation of solid foundations for future learning and socialization. A descriptive and exploratory approach was used with the theoretical basis of some authors and documents that guarantee the full development of children at that first stage of education. Empirical research through observations with data collection from internships conducted by the Pedagogy Course at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul/Aquidauana Campus was also used. It was noticed that the interaction of students in the classroom is crucial to their social and cognitive development. In addition, it is necessary that the environment be welcoming and that teachers be attentive to promoting an inclusive and receptive atmosphere for all students to participate. In this context, continuous training of educators and the implementation of practical and playful activities that incorporate psychomotor principles into the school routine are recommended. The role of the educator as the main knowledge mediator for students and the awareness of the importance of play for the full development of children should also be emphasized. Keywords: Development. Early Childhood Education. Psychomotricity.
