Sentimental dilemmas and homoerotic identity

Abstract

Mário de Andrade's victorious trajectory of national letters and culture did not avoid the great silence that had surrounded his own sexuality until very recently. Perhaps for this very reason, the reading that we propose of his short - story Frederico Paciência gives due place to the conflicts experienced by the author - transfigured, evidently, in the figure of the narrator. Even though we know that the narrator is not Mário, we believe that through this narrative he has reflected on the impasses of his homoerotic desire, lived as an excruciating conflict, since they believe they have to choose between the pretended nobility of friendship or the condemned homoerotic desire socially.
