AS POLÍTICAS PÚBLICAS COMO COMBATE DA MORTALIDADE MATERNA
Abstract
This article addresses a violation of human rights and a public health problem: maternal mortality. This issue is a delicate one for Brazilian women, as the country has already had a condemnation of this type of death in an international body, related to the Alyne Pimentel case. Alyne was one of the countless women who died from state neglect of maternal mortality. This research aims to analyze what mechanisms exist to face maternal mortality, analyzing the reflexes and changes on the theme. The article has as a research question whether the mechanisms for combating maternal mortality are effective. The method applied in the research has a qualitative character, being analyzed the profile of the parturient who dies, the violation of human rights that occurs, and finally, the legislation and measures that are in the scope on the subject. In addition to the case analysis of accountability in the Committee on Elimination Against All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, CEDAW “Alyne Pimentel vs. Brazil”, a case that showed the vulnerability of women in the health system.
