A SUSTENTABILIDADE DOS PROJETOS DE ASSENTAMENTO DE REFORMA AGRÁRIA
Abstract
The present study aims to explore the Agrarian Reform policy in Brazil as part of the sustainable development process. From an overview of the National Agrarian Reform Program and its application, we seek to align public policy with the idea of sustainability. The study begins with the chronology of Agrarian Reform in the country, more specifically in relation to the forms of exploitation. Afterwards, it makes a synthesis about the concept of sustainable development and explores the expropriation due to non-compliance with the socio-environmental function as a factor for achieving sustainability. Finally, it brings a history of agricultural policy notably contrary to environmental preservation and presents models of organic food production within settlement projects as elements of the sustainability process. As this is an exploratory and descriptive research, the deductive method will be used.
