InterMeio: Revista do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação – UFMS, created in 1995, is linked to the Graduate Program in Education (PPGEdu) of the Faculty of Education (FAED) at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS), Brazil. InterMeio: Revista do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação – UFMS, founded in 1995, has a long-standing trajectory in the debate on education at national and international levels. The journal was published on a semiannual basis between 1995 and 2026. As of 2026, the journal receives manuscripts on a continuous submission basis, with two annual issues. The journal also encourages reviewers to publish their peer review reports, with the aim of promoting practices aligned with Open Science.
Focus and Scope
InterMeio: Revista do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação – UFMS primarily publishes original scientific articles through continuous publication and thematic dossiers. In addition, it accepts literature reviews on current topics of recognised relevance to the field of formal and informal education.
Its mission is to promote scientific dissemination in the field of education and educational debate at national and international levels, with a focus on educational policies, teacher education and critical and interdisciplinary approaches to education. The journal is aimed at researchers, basic education and higher education teachers, graduate students and other education professionals.
The journal accepts manuscripts in Portuguese, English and Spanish, encouraging publication in English with a view to internationalisation and the expansion of scientific dialogue. The journal maintains editorial regularity and a commitment to scientific dissemination in the field of education. All articles published in this journal are submitted to a rigorous peer review policy, based on the initial screening by the editors and evaluation by at least two reviewers. The journal adopts a minimum interval of one calendar year between the publication of articles by the same author.
Publication Frequency
Between 1995 and 2026, the journal was published semiannually. As of 2026, it receives manuscripts on a continuous submission basis throughout the year and adopts continuous publication, with two annual issues.
Open Access Policy
The journal adopts the open access model, ensuring free, immediate and unrestricted access to all published content, in accordance with international practices of scientific communication and the democratisation of knowledge.
The journal adheres to the Open Science ecosystem, in line with international guidelines on transparency, accessibility and integrity in scientific communication. It uses Open Journal Systems (OJS), developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), as its infrastructure for editorial management and the promotion of open access to published content. It also encourages accessibility practices and the wider dissemination of scientific knowledge, seeking to ensure greater social reach for published content.
The journal is in a continuous process of improving its editorial practices, with a view to strengthening transparency, internationalisation and compliance with international indexing standards.
Archiving and Digital Preservation Policy
The journal adopts digital preservation policies, ensuring continuous and secure access to published content. The archiving systems used are LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe), which ensure the permanent preservation of files through multiple validated copies in different institutions, with restoration mechanisms in the event of data loss or corruption.
Additionally, the journal is part of the UFMS Open Journal Systems platform (OJS/UFMS), which maintains institutional copies of published content, reinforcing storage security.
Article Processing Charges (APCs)
The journal does not charge any fees for submission, peer review, publication, editing, processing or the use of graphic resources, including colour printing charges for figures and illustrations. All editorial costs are fully covered by the maintaining institution, with no charge to authors or readers. The no-fee policy is permanent and is not conditioned on the type of article.
Submission Process and Editorial Workflow

Registration of all authors in the system is mandatory, and a login and password are required for submission and for monitoring the editorial process. Manuscripts are initially assessed by the editorial team regarding their suitability to the journal’s scope, guidelines and formal requirements. They are then sent for double-blind peer review, conducted by ad hoc reviewers, considering thematic relevance, theoretical and methodological consistency, quality of argumentation and compliance with bibliographic standards.
The journal adopts principles of scientific integrity based on the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), including the prevention of plagiarism, responsible authorship, management of conflicts of interest, confidentiality of the review process and the possibility of retraction or correction when necessary.
Manuscripts must be original and unpublished and may not be under simultaneous review by another journal. Files must be submitted in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice or RTF format, with complete references and formatting in accordance with the journal’s guidelines. Figures and tables must be inserted in the body of the text.
Author data will be used exclusively for editorial purposes and will not be shared with third parties.
Privacy and Data Protection Statement
The journal is committed to protecting the personal data of authors, reviewers, editors and readers, in accordance with international standards of editorial ethics and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Personal data, such as name, affiliation, e-mail address and academic identifiers, are collected exclusively for editorial purposes, including submission, peer review, scientific communication and indexing. The data are not used for commercial purposes nor shared with third parties.
Users may manage and update their data in the system. Manuscripts and supplementary documents are treated confidentially and used only for review and scientific integrity purposes.
Published content is preserved in the OJS archiving system. The journal is not responsible for personal data included in manuscripts. Information may be shared only in cases of legal requirement.
Copyright Policy
The journal recognises authors as the holders of copyright, ensuring that they retain intellectual property rights over their content. By submitting their manuscripts, authors grant the journal the right of first publication, without exclusive transfer of ownership, preserving author credits and the possibility of sharing and disseminating the texts through different means, provided that the conditions established in the editorial policy are observed.
The journal adopts a licensing model based on Creative Commons International (CC BY), ensuring the free circulation, use and distribution of content, provided that proper attribution is given and the terms of the adopted licence are respected.
In line with the recommendations of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the journal ensures that the rights of use, distribution and reuse remain with the authors, promoting the democratisation of scientific knowledge and open access. The journal undertakes to use appropriate means for the broad dissemination of published content, fully respecting copyright and the conditions established in the copyright transfer agreement.
