Reading Games
multiliteracies taken by young children
Abstract
The multiplicity of languages and cultures existing in the digital environment provide many forms of meaning making. The interactions with digital makes connections with different ways of children’s reading and communicating. The children read texts/multimodal and make sense of them based on their sociocultural experiences. Games are part of the daily lives of many children, providing an opportunity for multimodal readings. In this sense, based on the perspectives of (multi) literacies and digital (MONTE MÓR, 2019, 2018, 2017; BARTON; LEE, 2015; COPE; KALANTZIS, 2003; GEE, 2010, 2003; PRENSKY, 2006), this article seeks to reflect on the multimodal readings taken by children in the first school years through interactions with digital. For this, we conducted qualitative interpretative research, with data collected from the observation of interactions of two children, aged 5 and 6 years old, with games. Finally, we point out the importance of (multi)literacies in pedagogical practices as a way of providing new ways of reading and make sense.
