Author Guidelines

“Perspectivas em Diálogo: Revista de Educação e Sociedade” does not charge any submission or publication fees. Manuscripts may be submitted at any time of the year, on a continuous submission basis, or within specific deadlines established for Thematic Dossiers.

1. Contributions submitted to the journal as scientific articles or reviews must be unpublished. An unpublished work is understood here as one that has not been published, in the form in which it is submitted, in any other context, publication venue and/or medium. The journal does not accept works previously published in conference proceedings, books, edited collections, etc. Republishing such works in PDRES would constitute self-plagiarism and could also infringe the copyright of events, publishers, institutions, etc. In manuscripts submitted to the journal for consideration, authors may, however, use parts of their previous bibliographic works, such as texts published in conference proceedings, provided that this is clearly acknowledged and that these excerpts do not exceed 10% to 20% of the new text.

2. Articles derived from theses and dissertations are accepted for evaluation, provided that they have been appropriately reworked as articles and that their origin is indicated in a footnote and/or in the body of the text. The content of the article must not have been previously published through other means.

3. Articles must be between 10 and 20 pages long, submitted in DOC or DOCX format, with single line spacing and formatted according to the journal’s template. Submissions that do not use the template will not be accepted. The template is available here.

4. Titles must be written in uppercase and bold type and must contain no more than 20 words. In the case of articles, the title words must be different from the keywords.

5. Article abstracts must contain up to 250 words and indicate the topic addressed, the objectives of the study, the methods used for data collection and analysis, the results and the general conclusions obtained.

6. Articles must include three to five keywords below the abstract, separated by semicolons.

7. The journal accepts manuscripts written in Portuguese, English or Spanish. Articles must include corresponding versions of the title, abstract and keywords in English and Spanish. Articles written in a foreign language must also include the title, abstract and keywords in Portuguese.

8. Articles are recommended to follow this structure: 1. Introduction, 2. Theoretical Framework, 3. Methodology or an equivalent expression, 4. Results and Discussion, 5. Final Considerations, followed by References. These sections must be written in uppercase and lowercase letters and in bold type and may contain subsections.

9. Theoretical essays are recommended to follow this structure: Introduction, Development and Final Considerations, in bold type. These sections may be given other equivalent titles at the authors’ discretion and may also contain additional subdivisions.

10. Reviews must be no longer than five pages. Only reviews of books and theses published no more than one year before the manuscript submission date will be accepted.

11. Figures, charts, graphs, tables and images must be included in the body of the text, properly identified and accompanied by their respective captions, where applicable.

12. Direct quotations of up to three lines must be inserted into the text within “double quotation marks”. ‘Single quotation marks’ must be used to indicate a quotation within another quotation. Direct quotations longer than three lines must be presented as a separate block, indented 4 cm from the left margin, in 11-point font and without quotation marks.

13. Authors must not identify themselves in any way within the manuscript, in order to prevent their identification during the blind peer review process.

14. Scientific articles may have no more than four authors. Reviews may have no more than two authors. For all types of submissions, at least one of the authors must hold, at a minimum, a master’s degree and preferably a doctoral degree.

15. Citations and references must comply with the most recent formatting standards issued by the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards, ABNT, using: a) single line spacing and two spaces between one reference and another; b) authors’ names written in full and without abbreviations. The typographic emphasis used in the references listed at the end of the text, in the References section, must be standardised in bold type.

16. Authors declare that the manuscript is unpublished, is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal and has not been published in its current form elsewhere, including in conference proceedings.

17. To prevent plagiarism and self-plagiarism, the final manuscript, formatted according to the journal’s template, must be checked using CopySpider or equivalent software. The resulting PDF report must then be downloaded and submitted through the journal’s system together with the article. A free version of the software is available here.

18. To ensure the ethical, transparent and responsible use of Generative Artificial Intelligence tools, authors must complete and sign the mandatory Declaration of AI Use when submitting the manuscript. The declaration is available here.

19. Following the initial assessment of the manuscript received through the journal’s system, only submissions containing all three required files will be forwarded for evaluation: I) the manuscript properly formatted according to the template and without any authorship identification; II) the CopySpider or equivalent report; and III) the Declaration of AI Use.

20. The unpublished contributions submitted will be sent to two reviewers from the relevant field for analysis through a blind review process. They may accept the manuscript immediately, accept it subject to revisions or reject it in full. When revisions are required, final acceptance and publication of the manuscript will depend on its resubmission to the editors-in-chief, with the requested changes clearly highlighted. When the reviews are divergent, with one favourable and one unfavourable recommendation, the same manuscript will be sent to another reviewer from the relevant field, whose assessment will serve as the deciding review.

21. Syntactic, orthographic and bibliographic corrections, as well as proofreading and the translation of the abstract into English and Spanish, are entirely the responsibility of the authors. If accepted, the manuscript will be published in the form in which it was submitted.

22. Authors acknowledge that they assign the copyright of the text to the journal if it is accepted for publication.

23. Authors whose manuscripts have been accepted by the journal must wait for at least four consecutive issues before submitting new contributions. This rule does not apply to invited authors, where applicable.

PEER REVIEW PROCESS

Submitted manuscripts undergo the following stages of evaluation:

Initially, the editorial team assesses whether the manuscript is consistent with the journal’s editorial line and scope and complies with the publication guidelines, including the use of the template, the submission of the CopySpider plagiarism detection report and the mandatory Declaration of AI Use. The team also assesses the article’s contribution and quality and its potential for publication. Subsequently, as the journal adopts a double-blind review method, the editorial team will send the manuscript for independent evaluation by two reviewers whose areas of expertise and academic backgrounds are related to the subject of the work. If there is disagreement between the ad hoc reviewers, the manuscript will be forwarded to a third reviewer. Finally, the authors will receive notification of the reviews, and the identities of the reviewers will remain confidential. The possible review decisions are: a) Accept; b) Revisions Required; c) Resubmit for Review; d) Submit Elsewhere; e) Reject; and f) See Comments.

Accepted manuscripts proceed to the editing stage, during which the final adjustments required for publication are made.

“Perspectivas em Diálogo: Revista de Educação e Sociedade” is a fully open access journal, which means that all its content is freely available at no cost to users or their institutions.

In accordance with the principle of the worldwide democratisation of knowledge, the journal provides immediate open access.

All articles published in this journal are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence, CC BY 4.0. This licence allows anyone to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full texts of the articles, as well as use them for any other lawful purpose, without requesting prior permission from the editor or the author, provided that appropriate credit is given.

This policy complies with the definition of open access established by the Budapest Open Access Initiative, BOAI.

Access to the content does not require reader registration, and the journal does not apply embargo periods.
