Abstract

This work aims to analyze how death, mourning and melancholy present in the work A desumanização by Valter Hugo Mãe. The perspective adopted for the analysis proposed here is guided on the ideas expressed by David Lapoujade in his essay O corpo que não aguenta mais. Under this direction, we sought to understand the points of dialogue between O corpo que não aguenta mais - Lapoujade – e A desumanização - Mãe. Through the characters, their confrontations and a poetic language, Mãe configures the power of bodies that resist hardships of an existence of losses. The factors that impact the lives of the characters and that, due to them, express weaknesses on the one hand, resistance forces on the other, are mainly the coping with death, the phases and faces of mourning and the melancholy manifested in Halla's daily life, his father, mother and Einar - most outstanding characters in the work.
