FOCUS AND SCOPE

Perspectivas em Diálogo: Revista de Educação e Sociedade, ISSN: 2358-1840, from the Professional Graduate Program in Education (PPGPE) Master's course, Naviraí Campus (CPNV) at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS), publishes scientific articles, theoretical essays, and unpublished reviews that are directly or indirectly related to the field of education. It is a quarterly publication that disseminates the humanities in/from the academic-scientific community.

The Journal does not adopt a defined theoretical-methodological approach, allowing its authors, readers, and contributors to discuss and access various topics in this area from different approaches and perspectives. In this way, it values debate, epistemological plurality, and dialogue between existing theoretical-methodological currents, far from defending any sectarian and unique (im)position in scientific production and dissemination. It is understood that knowledge and practice in education are composed of a multiplicity of approaches, dialectically interconnected and in constant dialogue.

Thus, this is a space for debating issues that emerge from/in pedagogical practice and its theoretical reflection; in the various domains, conceptions, and actions of education, whether formal, non-formal, or informal, as well as from/in society in general, in its ontological complexity, for whose understanding the knowledge and practices of Sociology, Anthropology, History, Philosophy, Psychology, and related areas contribute dialogically.

Such is the scope of the expected contributions.

Perspectivas em Diálogo: Revista de Educação e Sociedade is not responsible for the positions, information, and data presented by the authors in their respective texts.

PEER REVIEW PROCESS

The journal “Perspectivas em Diálogo: Revista de Educação e Sociedade” (Perspectives in Dialogue: Journal of Education and Society) adopts a double-blind peer review system. Reviewers are unaware of the authors' names or affiliations, and the results are forwarded to the authors without identifying who performed the review.

In this process, the texts received will be sent to two ad hoc reviewers, both national and international, with doctoral degrees and scientific production in the area of evaluation. Throughout the communication process in the Electronic Journal System, the names of the authors will be kept confidential in order to guarantee the anonymity of each one.

The guidelines for the evaluation process of the original texts sent to peers for analysis are: formal level of writing and academic language; fluent textual production; theoretical and methodological support, with consistency between the theoretical perspective assumed, objectives, methodology, interpretations, analyses, results, and final considerations; and verification that all bibliographies used in the text are listed in the references.

At the end of the evaluation process, the opinion consists of a brief text with considerations about the submission, which is recorded in the system. In the final opinion, one of the following alternatives must be indicated: a) Accept; b) Mandatory corrections; c) Resubmit for evaluation; d) Send to another journal; e) Reject; f) See comments. In the event of divergent opinions, the same article will be sent to a third ad hoc reviewer.

The time for publication of manuscripts after submission is approximately six (6) months.

FREQUENCY

The frequency has been increased in recent years due to the high demand for articles received.

From 2014 to 2020, it was published twice a year

From 2021 to 2022, it was published every four months

From 2023 onwards, it will be published quarterly

Of the four issues published annually, two are continuous flow and two are Thematic Dossiers. The Thematic Dossiers are published on the journal's website, under the link News, and are organized by professors from UFMS and other national and international universities.

HISTORY

History: notes on the origin and implementation of the journal

The journal Perspectivas em Diálogo: Revista de Educação e Sociedade (Perspectives in Dialogue: Journal of Education and Society) was created by faculty members at the Naviraí campus of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS/CPNV), arising from a collective interest in editing and promoting a scientific publication on that campus, bringing together the Social Sciences and Pedagogy courses.

The project was already being promoted by the then director of the campus, Josiane Peres Golçalves (2010-2014 term), and was consolidated with the arrival of new permanent faculty members for both courses in early 2013. That year, after several meetings and debates on the focus, scope, and title of the journal, a committee was set up in the first semester to organize the journal and invite members of the scientific council, among other technical measures.

Among the new faculty members who then undertook this task, at the encouragement of the administration, were Professor Giovani Ferreira Bezerra, assigned to the Pedagogy course and already with some experience in working with scientific journals, and Professor Lisandro Rodrigues de Almeida Braga, from the Social Sciences course. The committee for the creation of the journal also included the then librarian of the campus, Dagmar dos Passos Salles, who was later transferred to the Central Library of Campo Grande in the second semester of 2014, in accordance with Resolution No. 47 of June 2014, of the CPNV Campus Council, and left her duties at the journal, remaining, however, as a promoter and contributor to the magazine.

On June 24, 2013, through Resolution No. 31, the CPNV Campus Council finally approved the creation and implementation of the aforementioned scientific journal, which had already been given its current name, as suggested by Professor Esmael Alves de Oliveira, who had also arrived at the Naviraí campus in early 2013. The name of the journal was put up for discussion via email at the beginning of June, with the following options: Prisma Contemporâneo - Revista de Educação e Sociedade (Contemporary Prism - Journal of Education and Society); Múltiplas Concepções - Revista de Educação e Sociedade (Multiple Conceptions - Journal of Education and Society); Concepções Múltiplas - Revista de Educação e Sociedade (Multiple Conceptions - Journal of Education and Society); DialogAção –Revista de Educação e Sociedade (Dialogue - Journal of Education and Society); Concreticidade – Education and Society Journal. None of the names achieved consensus, and Professor Esmael's timely suggestion prevailed, introducing the name Perspectivas em Diálogo: Education and Society Journal, which perfectly captured what we wanted.

It should be noted that, since those initial debates, the title Revista de Educação e Sociedade (Journal of Education and Society) has remained unanimous, as this has always been the purpose of the publication: to establish interfaces and dialogues between the social sciences and educational discussions themselves, favoring the approximation and exchange between the two courses offered at CPNV until that moment, a situation that remains to this day.

Shortly thereafter, Professor Lisandro Braga withdrew from the journal's organizing committee in 2013 and was replaced by Professor Esmael, who also remained on the committee for a short period, requesting his resignation in early 2014. Giovani Bezerra remained involved with the publication, co-opting articles, promoting the nascent journal, and participating, on July 24, 2013, in training in Campo Grande, in a course taught by Professor Adilson Beatriz, linked to the Institute of Chemistry at UFMS in Campo Grande and managing editor of the journal Orbital: the Electronic Journal of Chemistry.

With the collaboration and advice of IT technician Hugo Leonardo Garcia Javarez, Giovani finalized the design and layout of the journal, including creating the logo still used by the magazine today. Thus, after a year of intense work and a few setbacks, the first issue of volume 1 was published on June 12, 2014, with Professor Giovani Ferreira Bezerra leading the work, accumulating the roles of editor, text editor, managing editor, and reviewer. This inaugural edition was made possible thanks to the contribution of Professor Adilson Beatriz, from UFMS in Campo Grande, who advised the editor-in-chief remotely, launching the issue on the website.

Subsequently, Adilson Beatriz welcomed Professor Giovani Bezerra to his office in Campo Grande on June 25, 2014, for further technical clarification regarding the use of the Electronic Journal Publishing System (SEER), which was fundamental to the successful launch of issue 2 of volume 1 of Perspectivas em Diálogo: Revista de Educação e Sociedade, on December 10, 2014, relying basically on the solitary work of Professor Giovani, given the shortcomings of the technical team.

Despite the challenges that lie ahead in conducting such an initiative, it is hoped to increase the number of contributors, readers, and authors of the journal, consolidating it in its line of work, namely, the publication of scientific articles, research reports, theoretical essays, and unpublished reviews that are directly or indirectly related to the field of Education and Social Sciences, so that it can be characterized as a biannual publication promoting the Humanities in/from the academic-scientific community. May this history continue with new achievements and accomplishments in future issues, maintaining regular publication, a commitment to theoretical and epistemological plurality, and fruitful dialogue among all those who wish to advance in the field of the Humanities.
