About the Journal
FOCUS AND SCOPE
Perspectivas em Diálogo: Journal of Education and Society, ISSN: 2358-1840, published by the Professional Graduate Programme in Education (PPGPE), a Master’s degree programme at the Naviraí Campus (CPNV) of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS), publishes original scientific articles, theoretical essays and reviews that are directly or indirectly related to the field of Education, characterising itself as a quarterly publication dedicated to disseminating the Humanities within and from the academic and scientific environment.
The Journal does not adopt a specific theoretical or methodological approach, allowing its authors, readers and contributors to discuss and access a wide range of topics in this field from different approaches and perspectives. In this way, debate, epistemological plurality and dialogue among existing theoretical and methodological traditions are valued, without defending any sectarian or exclusive position in scientific production and dissemination. Knowledge and practice in Education are understood as being composed of multiple approaches that are dialectically interconnected and in constant dialogue.
Thus, this is a space for debating issues that emerge from and within pedagogical practice and its theoretical reflection; from the various domains, conceptions and actions of education, whether formal, non-formal or informal, as well as from and within society in general, in its ontological complexity, whose understanding is supported, through dialogue, by the knowledge and practices of Sociology, Anthropology, History, Philosophy, Psychology and related fields.
This is the scope of the contributions expected.
Perspectivas em Diálogo: Journal of Education and Society is not responsible for the opinions, information and data presented by authors in their respective texts.

HISTORY
PART 1 – Notes on the origin and implementation of the Journal
The journal Perspectivas em Diálogo: Journal of Education and Society was created by lecturers at the Naviraí campus of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS/CPNV), arising from a collective interest in editing and promoting a scientific publication at that campus, bringing together the Social Sciences and Education degree programmes.
The project had already been encouraged by the then director of the campus, Josiane Peres Golçalves, during her 2010–2014 term, and was consolidated with the arrival of new permanent lecturers for both programmes at the beginning of 2013. That year, following several meetings and discussions regarding the focus, scope and title of the Journal, a committee was established during the first semester to organise the Journal, invite members of the scientific board and undertake other technical measures.
Among the new lecturers who became involved in this task, with encouragement from the administration, were Professor Giovani Ferreira Bezerra, who held a Master’s degree, worked in the Education programme and already had some experience with scientific journals, and Professor Lisandro Rodrigues de Almeida Braga, who also held a Master’s degree and worked in the Social Sciences programme. The committee responsible for creating the Journal also included Dagmar dos Passos Salles, who was then the campus librarian. After being transferred to the Central Library in Campo Grande during the second semester of 2014, in accordance with Resolution No. 47 of June 2014 issued by the CPNV Campus Council, she withdrew from the Journal’s duties but continued to support its dissemination and contribute to its activities.
On 24 June 2013, through Resolution No. 31, the CPNV Campus Council formally approved the creation and implementation of the scientific journal, which had already received its current name following a suggestion by Professor Esmael Alves de Oliveira, who had also arrived at the Naviraí campus at the beginning of 2013. The name of the Journal had been discussed by e-mail at the beginning of June, with the following options: Prisma Contemporâneo - Journal of Education and Society; Múltiplas Concepções - Journal of Education and Society; Concepções Múltiplas - Journal of Education and Society; DialogAção – Journal of Education and Society; Concreticidade – Journal of Education and Society. None of these names achieved consensus, and Professor Esmael’s timely suggestion ultimately prevailed, introducing the title Perspectivas em Diálogo: Journal of Education and Society, which so accurately expressed what was intended.
It should be noted that, throughout those initial discussions, there was unanimous agreement regarding the subtitle Journal of Education and Society, since the purpose of the publication had always been to establish connections and dialogue between the Social Sciences and educational discussions, encouraging interaction and exchange between the two programmes offered at CPNV at that time, a situation that remains unchanged to the present day.
Shortly afterwards, Professor Lisandro Braga withdrew from the Journal’s organising committee in 2013 and was replaced by Professor Esmael, who also remained on the committee for only a short period, requesting his departure at the beginning of 2014. Giovani Bezerra continued to be involved with the publication, soliciting articles, promoting the newly established Journal and taking part, on 24 July 2013, in a training course held in Campo Grande and taught by Professor Adilson Beatriz, affiliated with the Institute of Chemistry at UFMS in Campo Grande and managing editor of the journal Orbital: the Electronic Journal of Chemistry.
With the collaboration and technical support of information technology technician Hugo Leonardo Garcia Javarez, Giovani completed the layout and design work for the Journal, including the creation of the logo that is still used today. Thus, after a year of intensive work and several setbacks, the first issue of volume 1 was published on 12 June 2014, with Professor Giovani Ferreira Bezerra simultaneously performing the roles of editor, copy editor, managing editor and reviewer. This inaugural issue was made possible through the contribution of Professor Adilson Beatriz of UFMS in Campo Grande, who advised the editor-in-chief remotely and uploaded the issue to the website.
Professor Adilson Beatriz subsequently received Professor Giovani Bezerra in his office in Campo Grande on 25 June 2014 to provide further technical guidance on the use of the Electronic Journal Publishing System (SEER). This support was essential to the successful publication of issue 2 of volume 1 of Perspectivas em Diálogo: Journal of Education and Society on 10 December 2014, which relied primarily on Professor Giovani’s individual efforts due to staff shortages within the technical team.
Despite the challenges anticipated in managing such an initiative, the expectation was to increase the number of contributors, readers and authors, consolidating the Journal within its field of activity, namely the publication of original scientific articles, research reports, theoretical essays and reviews that were directly or indirectly related to Education and the Social Sciences. It was intended to become a twice-yearly publication dedicated to disseminating the Humanities within and from the academic and scientific environment. It was also hoped that this history would continue through new achievements and future issues, maintaining regular publication, a commitment to theoretical and epistemological plurality and productive dialogue among all those seeking to advance the field of the Human Sciences.

PART 2 – Notes on the continuation and consolidation of the Journal
Continuing the history of the journal Perspectivas em Diálogo: Journal of Education and Society, more than a decade after its creation, it should be emphasised that Dr Giovani Ferreira Bezerra carried out excellent work and remained editor-in-chief until 2018, as described by him in his final editorial, published in volume 5, issue 20, pages 1–4, in 2018.
From 2019 onwards, the Journal, which continued to publish two issues a year, began to have two editors-in-chief: Dr Josiane Peres Gonçalves, representing the Education programme, and Dr Aldenor da Silva Ferreira, representing the Social Sciences programme. It also had a managing editor, Willian dos Santos Flores, who held a Master’s degree and was affiliated with UFMS/CPNV. In the same year, the layout of PDRES was changed, with the creation of an official logo that remains in use.
In 2021, the Journal became a quarterly publication because of the high number of submissions received and the intention to improve its quality through inclusion in new national and international indexing services. In the same year, it began publishing two thematic dossiers annually, coordinated by lecturers and researchers from UFMS and other national and international institutions.
Also in 2021, through a call issued by the UFMS Publishing House Secretariat, linked to the Secretariat for Publishing and the Agency for Social and Scientific Communication (Sedit/Agecom), Perspectivas em Diálogo: Journal of Education and Society began registering Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), which contributed significantly to improving the quality of the Journal.
It is important to mention that Professor Dr Aldenor da Silva Ferreira remained editor-in-chief from 2019 to 2022 and withdrew from these activities after leaving UFMS/CPNV. Consequently, from 2023 onwards, Dr Célia Regina de Carvalho of UFMS assumed the position of editor-in-chief of PDRES alongside Professor Josiane Peres Gonçalves, who remained in the same role.
Another change that occurred in 2023 was the alteration of the publication frequency, which became quarterly, with four issues per year, comprising two thematic dossiers and two continuous-flow issues. Under this arrangement, each editor-in-chief became responsible for two annual issues: one thematic dossier and one continuous-flow issue.
It should be noted that PDRES was initially conceived as the journal of a Master’s degree programme in Education, should such a programme be approved at the Naviraí Campus of UFMS. Until that time, it served as the scientific journal of the undergraduate programmes in Education and Social Sciences. However, following the discontinuation of the latter programme and the approval of the Professional Graduate Programme in Education (PPGPE) from 2025 onwards, Perspectivas em Diálogo: Journal of Education and Society officially became the journal of PPGPE.
To meet the continuously increasing demands placed upon PDRES in its pursuit of quality and broader inclusion in national and international indexing services, directories and databases, the Editorial Team was expanded in 2025. Professors Dr Josiane Peres Gonçalves and Dr Celia Regina de Carvalho remained editors-in-chief, each representing one of the PPGPE research areas. Dr Felipe Silva Vedovoto and doctoral candidate Willian dos Santos Flores, both from CPNV/UFMS, began performing the roles of managing editor and technical adviser, respectively. The Scientific Board is composed of 30 researchers from various Brazilian universities and institutions in other countries, including Colombia, Spain, Mexico and Portugal.
Over the years, the Journal has also benefited from the collaboration of archivist Lucas Martins de Paula, affiliated with the UFMS Central Library, who configures the Open Journal Systems (OJS) software on which PDRES is hosted and assists with several other activities that contribute to increasing the Journal’s visibility.
Regarding the number of PDRES publications, the Journal concluded 2025 with a total of 12 volumes and 33 published issues, with no delays and with uninterrupted publication frequency and regularity since its creation in 2014.
In light of the above, it should be emphasised that the history of the Journal does not end here. With the implementation of PPGPE, the intention is for it to become increasingly strengthened, particularly through its inclusion in additional national and international indexing services, such as the Web of Science, which was achieved in 2023, as well as several others sought by the Editorial Team. It may therefore be stated that, after more than a decade of existence, Perspectivas em Diálogo: Journal of Education and Society seeks to consolidate itself as a high-quality journal committed to the dissemination of knowledge in the field of Education.
